The rhythm and blues vintage in appearance

The 40th edition of the Montreux Jazz is a miraculous fishing. The stars fell in the Lake Geneva since 1967, date of creation of the festival, reemerged from its black-blue waters, to shine on its shores. Plunged last weekend, two historical tribute to the Ertegun brothers evenings creators of the mythical label Atlantic and companions festival, soul, rock and jazz giants were back the Swiss city in the golden age of the sixties.

Think little: Ben e. King, sixty-eight years, singing his greatest tube "Stand by Me" with the spirit of a boy of twenty years. Solomon Burke, seventy years, sitting on a royal throne and dress light, unleashing public auditorium Stravinsky, with "That's what I Say" by Ray Charles; "Chaka Khan, soul priestess of the 1970s, blasting the"Respect"by Aretha Franklin"; Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), appropriating of incunabula of the rock and the blues; Nile Rodgers and Chic group turning the room into "dance floor" disco-funk, the cry of "A-frica, the freak is chic!" and passage of relay requires the last small wonder discovered by Atlantic, Paolo Nutini, a Scots of barely twenty years mixing voice copper to his elders for a breathtaking "We are Family".

All this beautiful world for only opening Friday night! On Sunday, dedicated to the memory of fire met Ertegun, the man of jazz in Atlantic, was of the same ilk in more low-key. With featured the Brazilian Sergio Mendes and legendary saxophonist Ornette Coleman. And a moment of grace when the two "ladies" Chaka Khan and Randy Crawford, accompanied by George Duke and Joe Sample on the piano, "shared" a blues, transforming the Léman in Mississippi breaking the chains of the time for a few moments.

"The place to be."

The 40th Montreux Jazz has not forgotten the future. On Saturday, could discover on stage at the Miles Davis Hall, the new soul pertussis, the Group Gnarls Barkley, who made a few weeks ago a takeover bid on the waves of the world with its tube "Crazy." The rhythm and blues "vintage" in appearance... Because the duo minstrel, with Orchestra, chorus, violins and electro, away with happiness the laws of the kind: the voice of the singer or blend into a powerful sound dough, almost free. Their enchanting and joyful concert packed festival-goers.

That it is reassured, Montreux Jazz has not consumed all of its stars at the opening. Until mid-July of jazz and rock fans will enjoy other celestial illuminations (for little that they have booked their places in time). Present three nights at the Stravinski auditorium, he promises us a great show world, this Sunday the 9 (with Mory Kanté, Angelique Kidjo,...) and other blues, Monday 10 (with The Neville Brothers, Taj Mahal...). The Brazil is also the poster with point organ Saturday evening a "festa" moderated by Merry Carlinhos Brown and Minister Gilberto Gil himself. On the side of jazz, the program is attractive to Casino Barrière (Chick Corea and his "Mozart's Project", tonight;) (Marcus Miller, Wednesday 12...). For our young readers (or the remaining), they will not fail the "high-lights" techno (Amon Tobin and Kid Koala, Saturday 8), pop (Morrissey, Tuesday 11) and rock (The Strokes, Friday 14) at the Miles Davis Hall. If you're not saturated music, enjoy a drink at the Montreux Jazz Café. They saw Chic give a "jam" surprise detonating before an audience of all ages, singing in unison "Good Times" happy times. Montreux is more than ever the place to be, in the beginning of July.
